The thought of cleaning the kitchen after dinner can sometimes be all the motivation I need to order a takeout.
Even when I clean, I place trash cans in the middle of the floor to catch scraps from the cutting board and I flood the counter around the sink when I try to clean the pots and pans. What I’m baking in the oven is creating a mess that I probably won’t be cleaning up on a “big” cleaning day next weekend, not to mention. It’s really a circus.
The thing is, kitchen life doesn’t have to be this way. An Instagram video of Mick Jennon recently caught my attention with handy gadgets to make kitchen cleaning easier. And, it included a product that I’m sure is a cooking game changer.

The short video highlights five kitchen products from Amazon that I may or may not need (Spoiler alert: I need them all). And the first time I saw the clip, the product that stood out was a hanging trash can / food scrap collector. This is one of the things I didn’t know I needed to do – until I saw it.
Who knew I wouldn’t have to constantly rush to my kitchen trash can to cut vegetables and take things out of the oven? I can even scrape cans directly from the counter! Being excited about such things makes it clear that I am an adult, and I am getting old.

As it turns out, Amazon has a number of hanging trash can options, including this silicone version of Elegant. It is compressible and comes with a little scraper. I really like this option because it is easy to save when not in use and because of the extremely low price.
There are tougher plastic bins that are a little stronger, like the Navaris option. You can use this type of scrap trap to clean up your kitchen mess or hold your sponge and dish soap.
If you want to get really fancy then there are some very nice models that come with lids. These are a permanent fixture that you attach to the inside of a cabinet door, such as this option from ELPHECO. And, they can be used as trash or compost bins.
Other helpful gadgets to keep your kitchen clean
I don’t want to forget the other simple kitchen gadgets highlighted in the video that will turn cleanliness into air after cooking. First, here’s the LONIN sponge holder kitchen sink caddy, which helps keep your cleaning products organized.
Instead of searching your sponges under a sink full of dirty food, you can easily place them using a sink caddy. This is a particularly good gadget when you have limited space, such as in the kitchen of a small apartment or in an RV.
A long kitchen absorption mat from LOPNUR is a must have if you can wash dishes by hand. The back window of my kitchen sink and the counter around it always felt like a storm had come after I had cleaned the dinner plates, so this little product really spoke to me.
When it comes to cooking in the oven, I’m not sure how I’ve survived so long without the oven liner mats down to catch all the mess. These four-pack premium liner mats from YEAILIFE will fit into drips, cheese, sauces and other baked messes.
But, these are just for something more than an oven. You can use liner mats on your outdoor barbecue grill or on your stove. The final item in the video — a blackstone electric tablet grid didn’t really stick with the theme of kitchen cleaning gadgets. Unless you consider the fact that it does not take up counter space and it is very easy to clean. Just look at what this happy customer had to say.
