Taylor Swift received her doctorate: I told you I was feeling ’22’!

Most introductory speeches are annoying slugs that fall half a grad under their motor board.

But today, New York University graduates have received a farewell that they will surely remember everything!

(And yes, you can expect a legacy of similarly lame songs throughout this article.)

Taylor Swift took to the stage to receive an honorary doctorate from a prestigious institution and while there she imparted some knowledge in the class of ‘22’.

Dr. Taylor Swift

“I’m 90% sure I came here because I have a song called ’22’,” Swift joked after receiving her degree.

The administrators who awarded him the degree requested differently.

They honored Taylor as “a trawlblazing and influential advocate for the rights of artists” as well as “one of the most famous and influential artists of his generation”.

Not too bad!

“I would like to thank NYU for making me technically, at least a doctor on paper. It’s not the kind of doctor you want in an emergency, “Taylor joked during his opening remarks.

Swift noted, however, that he could be useful in emergencies if he needed to sing “with attractive hooks and a sharply cathartic bridge section” or “a person who can name more than 50 species of cats a minute”.

Before sending them to their first brutal summer in the adult world, Taylor told the Grades something about himself.

“As a person who started my very public career at the age of 15, it brought a price. And that price was unsolicited advice year after year, ”he joked.

“Life can be heavy. Especially if you try to carry it all at once,” Swift said.

“Decide what you should keep and let the rest go. Often, the good things in your life are light anyway. “

Taylor reminded his young audience that happiness is subtle, and the future will not always be enchanting, but in all its ups and downs, hard work and optimism will never go out of style.

“Never be ashamed to try. Lack of effort is a myth,” he said.

“The ones I wanted the least were the ones I wanted to date and be friends with in high school. The people who want it the most are the ones I hire now to work for my company. “

Swift warned the graders that the road ahead was difficult, but he reminded them that when times are tough, they can always get over it.

“Hard things will happen to us. We will recover. We will learn from that. We will be more resilient because of this, ”he said.

“And as long as we are lucky enough to breathe we will breathe, breathe, breathe deeply and exhale. And I’m a doctor now so I know how breathing works.

“I hope you know how proud I am to share this day with you. We’re doing it together. So let’s keep dancing like a 22nd class.”

Even before Taylor finished his speech, Grades helped make #DoctorSwift a trending topic on Twitter.

We made sure it was a graduation ceremony that surpassed their wildest dreams.
