Toby Keith reveals stomach cancer diagnosis: “I need time to breathe”
Toby Keith has been diagnosed with stomach cancer.
In a statement posted on his verified Twitter and Instagram accounts on Sunday, the country’s music superstar said he had learned he had the disease – and has been receiving various treatments ever since.
“I’ve spent the last six months receiving chemotherapy, radiation and surgery,” Keith said, adding in simple, promising and general terms:
“So far so good.”
The 60-year-old concludes in his message:
“I need time to breathe, recover and relax.
“I’m looking forward to spending this time with my family. But I’ll see the fans soon. I can’t wait.”
Last October, the 60-year-old released his first studio album in five years.
She is currently touring for the album (“Peso in My Pocket”) and is scheduled to perform in Illinois and Michigan on June 17 and 18.
Despite the above statement, no official announcement has been made about possible changes in the singer’s tour schedule.
Oklahoma also played a Memorial Day weekend show at the Heroes Honor Festival at Daytona Beach, Florida, local … and she performed for the crowd that sold out at the San Antonio Rodeo in February.
In May, Keith participated in the 2022 Toby Keith and Friends Golf Classic, which raised more than $ 1.38 million for charity.
Keith and wife Tricia Lucas were married in 1984.
They share three children: daughter Shelley Cowell Rowland, 42, and Crystal Keith, 36, as well as son Stalin Keith Cowell, 25.
The veteran star also has several grandchildren.
An unfortunate coincidence, Keith has long been an advocate for cancer patients.
In 2006, she founded the Toby Keith Foundation to help children with cancer.
In 2014, the foundation opened OK Kids Coral, “a cost-free, convenient and comfortable home for pediatric cancer patients to seek treatment,” as their website explains.
“There is no greater gift than to keep families strong and together in difficult times,” said a statement on his foundation’s website.
“If we can reduce the pressure on a family, encourage a brother or sister, and comfort a sick child, we will make a difference in the fight against cancer.”
Keith has collected 42 top 10 hits and 32 number-one songs while selling 40 million albums.
He has performed hundreds of shows for US service members abroad, including in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as at events for President Donald Trump, Barack Obama, and George W. Bush.
In response to this sad news, meanwhile, several singers and entertainers have gone on social media to greet Keith.
“Stand there,” wrote John Rich.
“I wish my big friend a speedy recovery and most of the redheads in the world @tobykeith #SeeYouInCabo,” Sammy Hager added.
“Please take care of you and your family. We are rooting for chemo work here and will see you as soon as you can, not a day before!” Kathy Bingham tweeted.
“My heart, soul and prayers are always with you and your family. My friend keep your incredible warrior consciousness,” wrote Brett Michaels.
